Job description

A Leader in the Financial and Banking sector is seeking a Junior Data Engineer.

The purpose of the Data Engineer is to leverage data expertise and related technologies, aligned with the Company's Data Architecture Roadmap, to enhance technical thought leadership, deliver fit-for-purpose data products, and support data initiatives. Additionally, Data Engineers improve the company's data infrastructure to enable advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence by providing clean, usable data to stakeholders. They develop data pipelines, ingestion, provisioning, streaming, self-service solutions, APIs, and big data solutions that support the company's strategy to become a data-driven organization.

Position Info:

Required Qualifications:

• Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
• Advanced Diplomas / National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualifications:

• Field of Study: BCom, BSc, BEng

Preferred Certifications:

• Cloud (Azure, AWS), DEVOPS or Data certifications. Data Science certifications (Coursera, Udemy, SAS Data Scientist, Microsoft Data Scientist) are advantageous.

Minimum Experience:

• 1-2 years of result-driven, analytical, and innovative problem-solving experience. Self-motivated, proactive, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks under deadlines. Team-oriented and resilient.

Technical Knowledge:

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and support data pipelines, perform data profiling, cleaning, validation, and quality assurance.
• Support and maintain data infrastructure ensuring security, availability, and reliability.
• Build and monitor data pipelines for ingestion, provisioning, streaming, and APIs.
• Create virtual databases and assist in data extraction for business needs.
• Collaborate with Data Analysts for data profiling, validation, and documentation.
• Monitor and support data warehouse and cloud processes to meet SLAs.
• Support daily operations and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize data processes.
