Job description

Job Purpose

To ensure continuous plant/factory availability through effective maintenance of electrical equipment. To provide safe achievement of production performance levels through the effective maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications

  • N3 with Maths & Science / Grade 12
  • Trade Tested Certification – Electrical
  • Driving license EB or C1 code

Experience/Special Skills and Attributes

  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in a heavy industry (factory/production environment)
  • Experience in Medium Voltage Switching, Medium Voltage Breaker maintenance/operation, motor overhauling
  • Electrical maintenance experience including in hazardous locations
  • Proven fault-finding skills
  • Exposure to Variable Speed Drives, Smart Motor Controllers, and PLCs
  • Knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and 2 standards; Wiremen’s License preferred

Responsibilities

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Install, inspect, repair, and maintain assets, equipment, and infrastructure to minimize production impact
  • Perform planned maintenance on plant equipment
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of machinery by setting and adjusting devices within tolerances
  • Maintain machine availability to meet production targets
  • Attend to electrical faults and breakdowns
  • Support and oversee maintenance tasks of support personnel
  • Conduct condition monitoring, fault finding, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with plant/factory personnel to identify maintenance needs
  • Provide hands-on maintenance support during breakdowns and shutdowns
  • Perform technical evaluations and testing of equipment, including during projects
  • Participate in standby duties as required
  • Adhere to SHE and technical standards, supporting factory availability goals
  • Identify and respond to equipment defects and opportunities for improvement
