Job description

Specialist: IM Systems - Mining, Kathu, Northern Cape

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

Safety, Health and Environment

• Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
• Support good housekeeping in the broader department and on-site.
• Participate actively in VFLs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments, and close-out of Safety Actions.

Performance and Delivery

• Information Management & Systems Integration
• Configure, troubleshoot, and update specialist construction systems (e.g., CIFHOS, bespoke tools) to meet project requirements.
• Collaborate with the Mine's IM department and EPCM teams to integrate various systems into the digital construction control tower.
• Manage data models and workflows to ensure compliance with ISO 15926, CoBie, and CIFHOS standards.
• Implement data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance.
• Oversee ETL processes for data consolidation from various systems into central repositories.

Technical System Maintenance & Support

• Advise on IT hardware and software inventory, ensuring quick deployment and replacements.
• Coordinate with IT teams to resolve hardware/software issues.
• Conduct system audits to identify performance issues and cybersecurity risks.
• Develop contingency plans for system downtime.

Data Management & Analysis

• Manage project data collection, consolidation, and validation.
• Analyze data to support decision-making on costs, timelines, and resources.
• Develop dashboards and analytics tools to monitor KPIs.
• Collaborate with teams to capture relevant data efficiently.

Reporting & Visualisation

• Create standard and custom reports for stakeholders.
• Design real-time reporting solutions for project visibility.
• Translate complex data into visual reports using Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Present insights during project reviews.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

• Understand and meet data/reporting needs of project teams.
• Serve as a point of contact for data queries.
• Foster collaboration across departments to align data efforts.

Data Governance & Quality Assurance

• Enforce data governance practices.
• Conduct audits to improve data quality.
• Manage large data sets for scalability and performance.

Technical Leadership & Development

• Mentor and develop the IM team.
• Stay updated with latest data analytics technologies.
• Lead automation initiatives for data processes.
• Collaborate with IT to enhance data infrastructure.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related fields.
• Certifications in CIP, Power BI, ISO 19650, PAS 1192-3, SQL, Tableau, Big Data technologies.
• SA Driver's Licence.
• 6-8 years managing large-scale databases and data structures.
• Knowledge of Data Modelling, Architecture, ETL, and data flow in mining projects.
• Understanding of Data Quality, Governance, and cloud technologies.
• Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, and scripting for automation.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Leadership qualities to mentor teams and influence stakeholders.
