Applications are invited for the Infrastructure Technician - Senior position based in Stellenbosch.
Purpose of the Role :
The Infrastructure Technician Senior will be responsible for constructing and maintaining wireless and fibre network infrastructure, leading their team in these tasks. This includes installation, configuration of equipment, and setting up physical structures to host equipment.
Key Performance Areas :
- Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining communication towers, fibre networks, and support structures.
- Respond to network outages and meet project deadlines, including highsite outages and fibre network breaks.
- Climb tall structures (50 meters or more) daily, with loads up to 20kg.
- Analyze situations to identify risks, ensuring safety and appropriate action.
- Install, replace, and repair antenna systems and general tower maintenance.
- Build and repair fibre infrastructure, including expansions and damages.
- Install and maintain various cables and connectors, weatherproof installations.
- Maintain power equipment and data routers.
- Follow work instructions, escalate issues when necessary.
- Identify hazards and perform duties safely.
- Communicate effectively with team and management.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Travel as required.
- Erect self-supporting and stayed masts.
- Lead and mentor team members.
- Plan future infrastructure needs.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience :
- 2-4 years industry experience.
- Valid driver’s license; off-road experience advantageous.
- Up-to-date medical certificate.
- Completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue training.
- Technical inclination, manual labour experience in site prep or equipment setup.
- Experience in RF and fibre fields preferred.
- Proficiency with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of municipal regulations/by-laws.
- Proficiency with safety gear, harnesses, climbing equipment.
- Physical fitness for climbing, carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions.
- Ability to analyze situations, recognize hazards, work under pressure, and independently.
- Compliance with weight and waist measurements for safety equipment.
- Intermediate skills in computers, electricity (AC/DC), solar energy, power/battery systems, network and RF principles, troubleshooting, network hardware/software, routing, and trunking techniques.
- Effective communication, fault-finding, problem-solving, and task prioritization skills.
Educational Requirements :
- Grade 12 (Maths and Science advantageous).
- OSHA Certification advantageous.
