CLIENT in the MINING INDUSTRY requires the services of a SUPERVISOR ENGINEERING RIGGING at their premises in GAUTENG as soon as possible.
Position Overview: The Supervisor Engineering Rigging is responsible for overseeing all rigging activities within their section or area of responsibility, ensuring strict adherence to the rigging plan, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.
The supervisor leads the rigging team in safely executing tasks such as replacing skips, cages, and ropes, and preparing and securing equipment and machinery for underground production sections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all rigging, lifting equipment/tackles, 3 BMR winders, and a single drum winder in a single drop shaft.
- Ensure safety and compliance with mining legislation related to lifting equipment, winders, ropes, lifting tackles, overhead cranes, and regulations.
- Perform inspections in accordance with Mine Health and Safety Act regulations and company standards.
- Manage team performance and training, oversee rigging and heavy lifting work on surface, underground, and vertical shafts.
- Plan and execute maintenance and repairs safely and timely, meeting targets.
- Order equipment and ensure critical spares are available.
- Conduct Root Cause Failure Assessments (RCFA) for equipment reliability.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and campaigns, contributing to a zero-harm culture.
- Manage operational risks within the section and oversee all rigging activities.
- Calculate rope capacity and load weights accurately.
- Manage all rigging maintenance activities and oversee winders and ropes functions.
- Perform standby duties, attend to call-outs and breakdowns as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience as a rigger on deep level mines, including Shaft and Winding systems.
- Must be declared medically fit for the environment after a risk-based medical examination at the Occupational Health Centre, pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and any other required assessments.
