The Manager of Taxation will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, audit risk management, and strategic projects across the entire tax risk management cycle. This includes all taxes such as Income Tax, Transfer Pricing, VAT, Carbon Tax, Customs & Excise, Sales-based levies, and PAYE.
You will act as the primary liaison between external tax service providers and company leadership, playing a strategic role in tax strategy, compliance, and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Manage tax accrual processes for legal entities, including corporate income tax and transactional taxes (current and deferred). Prepare, calculate, and submit reports for monthly management reporting. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accuracy in tax forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning strategies.
- Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position and minimize liabilities while ensuring compliance with tax laws. Stay updated on changes in tax regulations and conduct research to identify tax-saving opportunities.
- Audit Support: Manage tax audits and litigation, including negotiations with tax authorities. Coordinate responses to audit requests and represent the company during discussions.
- Customer Perspective: Provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions, manage tax strategies, and identify opportunities for tax optimization. Participate in business development analysis and develop tax reporting tools as needed.
- Tax Risk Management: Oversee end-to-end tax risk management, monitor legislative changes, and advise management on potential impacts.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure adherence to tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements, aligning processes with UKCR standards.
- People Management: Lead and develop a team of tax professionals and effectively utilize external advisers.
Qualifications and Experience:
- CA(SA) qualification or Law degree; Master’s in taxation preferred.
- Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role within a large corporate.
- Deep knowledge of corporate and international tax law, transactional tax, and experience managing tax audits and disputes.
- Strong relationships with SARS and experience in manufacturing sector taxes.
