Our client, a Global Law Firm based in Sandton, has an opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager with a professional services background to further embed their global sector approach in the region.
Strong emphasis is placed on understanding the dynamics of a multi-national firm and of the continent. The role extends beyond South Africa and involves working with stakeholders across the business to develop relationships and enhance reputation in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The role will require some travel.
Key Functions:
- Work closely with the global BD team to support lawyers in all aspects of BD, including influencing strategy, client targeting, credentials materials, and tactical marketing activities such as sponsorship and thought leadership.
- Develop and communicate BD and marketing plans for South Africa and the Groups and Sectors active in the region, aligning them with firm strategy and tailoring global plans to the regional audience.
- Participate in the firm's Africa Steering Group to strengthen relationships across Sub-Saharan Africa, building connectivity, brand, and profile through direct and intermediary channels.
- Implement plans to enhance the firm's profile and brand in South Africa using communication channels like Out-Law, e-newsletters, media, social media, sponsorships, events, conferences, industry networks, and collaboration with the wider BD team.
- Manage the delivery of BD activities according to agreed plans, coordinate with partners, share best practices, and facilitate collaboration across offices, groups, and sectors.
- Identify key influencers in the market (clients, targets, business organizations, intermediaries, media), develop engagement plans, and support partners in engaging confidently with these influencers.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Relevant marketing qualification or progress towards one.
- Team management and mentoring skills, including remote management.
- Strong knowledge of the regional marketplace.
- Experience in a multi-site, multi-national professional services environment.
- Experience in a similar partnership role in South Africa.
- Experience supporting and delivering strategic plans in a partnership setting.
- Experience in sector market segmentation, preferably in infrastructure, projects, or energy sectors.
