ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / SENIOR LECTURER

Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Presenting lectures and practical sessions to undergraduate students in Pasture Science/Rangeland Management and Applied Plant and Soil Sciences modules;
- Presenting lectures and practical sessions to Honours students in Pasture Science/Rangeland Management modules;
- Developing a research programme with postgraduate supervision in sustainable climate smart pasture science or rangeland management/ecology;
- Teaching curriculum development, when required;
- Contributing to community engagement projects.
Minimum Requirements
Associate Professor:
- Relevant PhD degree in Pasture Science or a related discipline with a relevant BSc or BSc (Agric) degree that included Pasture Science or Rangeland Management/Ecology module content;
- Five (5) years teaching experience at undergraduate level;
- Experience in undergraduate curriculum development;
- Postgraduate supervision as main supervisor of at least one graduated PhD student, and three graduated MSc students in a relevant field;
- Research output, research skills and/or a proven record of research publications in accredited journals or presentation in local and international conferences as appropriate for the relevant level of appointment, specifically, in the field of pasture science or rangeland management/ecology;
- Evidence of successful multi-year international research grant funding applications;
- NRF rating (at least at Established Researcher level) or equivalent research standing.
Senior Lecturer
- Relevant PhD degree in Pasture Science or in a related discipline with a relevant BSc or BSc (Agric) degree that included Pasture Science or Rangeland Management/Ecology module content;
- Two (2) years teaching experience at undergraduate level;
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision as main supervisor of at least one graduated Masters student in a relevant field;
- Research output, research skills and/or a proven record of research publications in accredited journals or presentation in local conferences as appropriate for the relevant level of appointment, specifically, in the field of pasture science or rangeland management/ecology;
- Evidence of successful research grant funding applications;
- NRF rating or intent to obtain a rating in the next five years.
Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)
- Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Conflict management skills;
- Advanced computer literacy and proficiency in the use of MS Office computer applications;
- Good knowledge of statistical analyses;
- Able to seek out funding opportunities and successfully apply for funding.
Added Advantages And Preferences
- Industry experience in pasture science or rangeland management/ecology;
- Verifiable involvement in science-based community engagement activities;
- Member of an editorial board of a Web of Science listed journal in a relevant field (Associate Professor appointee).
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
