- Plan, manage, support, and promote strategic research and innovation programmes aimed at supporting the formulation of appropriate strategies, projects, and policies within the maritime sector.
- Manage the implementation of technology and innovation studies to promote research as a key contributor to the development and growth of the maritime industry.
- Promote a culture of innovation and transformation through research to foster beneficiation and entrepreneurship.
- Drive technology and innovation research activities and projects, prudently managing resources (e.g., finance, data) allocated for research projects.
- Develop and manage performance compliance requirements (e.g., annual business plans, regular reports, ad-hoc requests).
- Provide reliable departmental financial projections for budgeting and management purposes.
- Identify departmental risks and develop and implement mitigation plans to manage these risks.
- Undertake ad-hoc work as required and directed by Line Management.
- Engage and promote relations with internal and external stakeholders on maritime research.
- Participate in research collaboration programmes with industry, academia, and other relevant institutions impacting the maritime sector.
- Interact with stakeholders at various levels to develop the industry.
- Build and manage relationships with leading research institutes and key players locally and internationally to participate in strategic initiatives.
- Partner with local and international research and higher education institutions and the maritime sector to create a system for sharing maritime data.
- Actively represent SAMSA in maritime research and innovation engagement platforms internally and externally.
- Collaborate with industry partners to identify, assess, and implement new maritime business opportunities that promote research.
- Provide input or guidance in the ideation and initiation of maritime research projects.
- Communicate, share, and present research findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Design and implement programmes and projects.
- Evaluate and review programmes and projects, taking proactive remedial actions to ensure quality outputs.
- Apply newly acquired skills to improve performance.
- Manage data in accordance with ethical and information protection guidelines.
- Manage personal performance effectively in line with the Performance Management Guidelines and Cycle.
