Job description

Our client, a leading automotive manufacturing company based in Durban, is looking to fill the position of Production Supervisor.

Purpose of the Role :

To provide ongoing support to customers by leading the production team to maintain a safe working environment that produces high-quality products in a productive manner, delivered to the customer on time.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Promote a safe working environment and encourage team leaders and team members to follow safety protocols.
  2. Ensure all safety requirements are adhered to at all times.
  3. Plan, coordinate, and supervise the daily operations and functions of the production teams to meet customer requirements.
  4. Ensure stable production and achieve availability and productivity targets.
  5. Ensure customer delivery is on time, with the correct product and quantity.
  6. Conduct morning meetings for discussion and feedback with team members.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  8. Manage the accuracy of stock received, stored, and delivered to customers.
  9. Lead continuous improvement activities (Kaizen) to meet company targets.
  10. Supervise overtime requirements to support customer demands.
  11. Develop and manage standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure team adherence.
  12. Implement cross-training and multiskilling to promote team flexibility.
  13. Monitor daily work performance and provide coaching as needed.
  14. Promote QC circle activities by mentoring team leaders and members.
  15. Maintain 2S1Y (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Why) in the production plant daily.
  16. Report production conditions to management in monthly meetings.
  17. Promote PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) activities to resolve problems.
  18. Ensure products meet customer quality standards.
  19. Collaborate with cross-functional departments for efficient plant operations.
  20. Manage workplace issues, including disciplinary counseling and grievances.
  21. Prepare management review reports on company performance against targets.
  22. Understand and uphold company policies and responsibilities within own area.
  23. Possess knowledge of 8D problem-solving techniques and train team leaders and members accordingly.
Work Conditions :
  • Day shift, with readiness to support night shifts if required.
  • Work on weekends/overtime as per customer requirements, including scheduled customer overtime.
Qualifications and Experience :
  1. Grade 12 Senior Certificate.
  2. Diploma or Degree in Production Management or similar, or progressing towards such qualification.
  3. Minimum 3 years supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
  4. Intermediate computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook).
  5. Knowledge of risk management and problem-solving techniques.
  6. Experience working with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards (ISO 9001 is essential and prioritized).
