SENIOR VETERINARY NURSE: OUTPATIENTS

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  1. Clinic management (hygiene, stock control, care of equipment, safety measures etc.);
  2. Supervising personnel;
  3. Administering and monitoring anaesthesia and sedation;
  4. Performing emergency procedures (small animals);
  5. Communicating with patient owners;
  6. Demonstrating techniques to and instructing students and student nurses as well as own team members;
  7. Self-development;
  8. Being flexible to work in other sections in the OVAH; and
  9. Performing shift duties.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipCurAnim or Dip Vet Nursing) or BVetNurse or equivalent qualification;
  2. Registration as Veterinary Nurse with the South African Veterinary Council; and
  3. One year experience in veterinary nursing and clinic management.
Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)
  1. Knowledge of small animal nursing procedures, biosecurity measures and procedures and handling of all types of small animals;
  2. Meticulous about detail, professional and a responsible person;
  3. Appropriate language and communication skills;
  4. Organizing skills and a strong service orientation;
  5. Physical mobility;
  6. Ability to work under pressure and without supervision;
  7. Computer literacy;
  8. Ability to work weekends and outside normal working hours when required for continuous service delivery in the hospital; and
  9. Willingness to perform shift duties.
Added Advantages And Preferences
  • Experience in veterinary nursing and clinic management.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
