POSITION: Manager: Asset-Community Relations

The Manager: Asset Community Relations will be responsible for leading the co-development and execution of the community affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s social performance objectives. The role will focus on managing complex social risks, implementing regional strategies, and fostering inclusive socio-economic development, while maintaining ongoing, strategic relationships with all stakeholders. A data-driven approach and innovative stakeholder solutions will be essential in delivering consistent, sustainable outcomes.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors or Postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Business Administration (PDBA) or equivalent qualification

Minimum 10

years’ experience within the sustainability, stakeholder relations and/or corporate affairs, ideally in the mining and metals industry, natural resources or heavy industry

Demonstrated track record of stakeholder identification, mapping and engagement strategies

Legal proficiency in relevant Mining and related legislation & regulations relating to Corporate Social Responsibility and global sustainability frameworks

Established expertise in sustainability reporting, governance and compliance

Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Advanced safety leadership capability with proven safety campaign delivery record

Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration to build and foster constructive relationships

Advanced understanding of operational working culture and dealing with operational delivery challenges

Sound written and verbal communication, negotiation/influencing, advocacy and diplomacy skills within diverse stakeholder groups

Proven capability in effectively identifying and addressing stakeholder needs, concerns and interests

Advanced capability to develop effective stakeholder engagement strategies and impact assessment

Ability to apply Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies to improve and drive continuous improvement

Ability to cope with ambiguity, high personal resilience and change adaptability

Computer literacy - proficient in Microsoft Office packages

Duties And Responsibilities

Actively

participate in and lead interventions that promote a culture of Zero Harm by ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, SHE and Risk policies and procedures, operational standards, instructions and governance requirements

Demonstrate and promote Visible Felt Leadership aligned with operational SHE and Risk management standards, campaigns and interventions

Support the company’s strategies and initiatives to foster a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace culture

Participate in and lead initiatives related to team coaching, resourcing, capability development, succession planning and talent management

Lead the collaborative development of the community affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s social performance objectives, corporate frameworks and evolving regional strategies and systems

Develop and implement programmes that deliver the corporate and regional community affairs strategy, ensuring consistent achievement of social performance objectives

Collaborate with people and commercial functions to identify synergies and co-design interventions that enhance community development and create shared value for host communities through Procurement, Supply Chain and the Centre for Supplier Development

Lead the development and execution of stratified stakeholder mapping and engagement plans that align with the organisation’s purpose and social performance goals

Identify and implement tactical approaches to manage complex social risks by evaluating and responding to the interdependencies between people, systems and processes and, aligning these with core business drivers and emergent community dynamics

Foster strong stakeholder relationships through open and transparent communication, effectively managing expectations and proactively mitigating risks to protect and strengthen the organisation’s reputation

Work with functional leads to manage external media relations, communications and proactive initiatives aimed at enhancing the organisation’s public image

Maintain reliable, data-driven social investment reports, analytics and predictive indicators to support proactive decision-making and to ensure consistent social performance outcomes and governance

Identify and assess opportunities to create synergies between Business Partners and the South Deep Education and Community Trusts to collaboratively generate shared value with host communities
