An established industry player is seeking an Automation Engineer to enhance the digitization and automation of their plant. This role involves performing instrumentation activities, software programming, and providing maintenance assistance. The successful candidate will ensure that manufacturing process PLC and automation programs are in place, drive the closure of identified gaps, and complete capital projects. PURPOSE OF THE JOB : The Automation Engineer is responsible for performing instrumentation activities, software programming, and maintenance assistance in the plant.
The Automation Engineer will also play a crucial role in the digitization and automation of the plant.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS :
Ensure manufacturing process PLC and other automation programs are in place for planned orders prior to the production start date.
Drive closure of the identified gaps from the manufacturing process documentation and PLC program reviews.
Complete all assigned capital projects in accordance with project management best practices.
Complete all developmental projects (i.e., projects from PD).
Complete the approved plant improvement initiatives for planned and current orders.
Provide first-line support for operations / production.
Conduct operational studies to improve challenges, aligning with business plan priorities, and translate operational requirements into specifications.
Offer automation and PLC support and process support within the designated area.
Develop strategies to optimize automated processes and methods.
Map current operational processes and develop the best programs possible.
Collaborate with functional leaders to increase productivity, reduce costs, maximize efficiency, and manage human capital effectively.
Coordinate quality control activities to resolve service problems, maximize reliability, and minimize costs.
Communicate with management and user personnel to develop automated processes and efficiency standards.
Design and generate reports to identify opportunities for performance improvements.
Create and deliver presentations on recommended solutions and initiatives.
Manage the CAPEX process, including safety, planning, budgeting, design, execution, and reporting, to ensure optimal return on investment.
Qualifications You Should Have
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and report writing.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Attention to detail, planning, communication, and administrative skills.
Knowledge of Siemens S7 Programming (TIA Portal : Step 7 and WinCC).
Experience with Citect Scada and HMI development and programming.
Variable Speed Drives programming experience.
Flexibility and adaptability in a changing work environment.
Ability to learn company systems and adapt work methods accordingly.
Proficiency in problem-solving tools and team leadership.
Ability to evaluate problems, make decisions, and defend solutions with technical backing.
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
Ability to work effectively in a team and manage engineering teams.
Minimum Requirements :
BSc / BEng.
in Electrical, Computer Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
At least 3 years of PLC programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
In-depth knowledge of control and instrumentation activities and drawings.
Experience with instrumentation projects and software programming.
Strong planning, integration, and resource management skills.
Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Knowledge of Siemens S7 Programming, Citect Scada, HMI, and Variable Speed Drives.
Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and ability to lead teams.
Ability to evaluate problems and make defendable decisions.
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
