Main Purpose
Adhere to the design strategy and creative direction for Woolworths Marketing as part of an integrated 360 communications approach under the guidance of the Design Leadership Team. Deliver innovative solutions to the Business through Packaging Design, Communication Design, Corporate Branding and other Graphic Design related projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design delivery
- Adhere to the design strategy and guidelines for Woolworths.
- Deliver design and creative for Woolworths Marketing & Communication across relevant portfolios.
- Act as an ambassador for the Woolworths Agency and Marketing by building relationships and respect with Product groups through the delivery of world class design.
- Guide Junior Designers / Interns on basic tasks related to design.
Innovation in design
- Deliver world class sustainable packaging design and innovation.
- Drive consistency, innovation and freshness in design delivery.
- Build credibility in design by constantly pushing quality and innovation in the delivery of design projects.
- Identify and realise design opportunities to ensure that Woolworths is ahead of the game, researching online for both local and on a global perspectives in the design world.
- Display technical excellence and innovation in design.
- Work with Design Leadership Team to design and manage projects ensuring delivery is in line with the brand strategy.
Commercial Acumen
- Understand the Woolworths brand strategy and translate this into design.
- Deliver designs that sell.
- Deliver design that is on budget, of high quality and on time.
Corporate Identity
- Ensure compliance of creative material to corporate identity.
- Maintain brand consistency throughout delivery of design.
- Provide quality control over concepts and projects to ensure brand consistency.
Project Delivery
- Attend client meetings together with Design Leadership Team member and Account Manager as required.
- Active involvement with the project team through all stages of each project to ensure.
- Compliance with the brief and CPA.
- Ensure that the Head of Design/ Design Lead reviews work for approval prior to being forwarded to the client and prior to presentations.
- Attend pre-production/post production meetings in preparation for shoots with Design Lead when required.
- Attend shoots with the guidance of a Design Lead.
- Flag project issues before they arise.
Quality Control
- Check and ensure accuracy of all artwork including reviewing copy, die lines and mock ups for both design and copy considerations with Design Lead.
- Ensure proof and production/press checks are reviewed with Design Lead.
- Design handover to DTP/Finished Art with guidance of a Design Lead.
- Ensure accurate archiving of projects in accordance with Woolworths protocols.
Industry Awareness
- Maintain awareness of design, retail and marketing industry trends and an up-to-date knowledge of the communications mix which includes regular WW Store visits and competitor store visits.
- Understand Woolworths position in the marketplace relative to its competitors and
- provide thought leadership in your field of design interest.
- Attend design conferences/talks to maintain industry awareness (budget reliant).
Key Competencies
- 3 year Graphic Design degree/diploma.
- 5 - 10 years relevant experience in Branding, Communication Design and Packaging Design.
- Demonstrate competency in evaluating creative work (self and others).
- Highly proficient in the Adobe Suite of programs including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Highly developed aesthetic for Beauty, Fashion and Foods Packaging.
- Great illustration skills will be advantageous.
- Prolific use of Typography.
- Experience in Packaging and Editorial design. Print production knowledge is recommended.
