Job description

We are seeking an experiencedSenior Marine Designerto join ourteam. This role is crucial in leading complex design projectsand ensuring technical excellence throughout all stages of marine design and production.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Designing yacht components & systems (structures, joinery, mechanical & electrical systems) – Conceptual through to detailed design
• 3D modelling of yacht structure, joinery modules and systems
• Producing production information from the 3D model (drawings, CNC cut files, material take-offs)
• Provide technical support and guidance to production team
• Determining technical specifications of equipment (including calculations where required)
• Liasing with suppliers to obtain drawings, 3d models & technical information
• Costing of components and systems
• Support procurement by supplying & confirming specifications for orders
• Technical report writing
• Support and mentorship for junior employees
• Record attendance and time keeping

COMPETENCIES/REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Marine industry experience is essential
• Work experience with 2D draughting and 3D modelling software (eg. Rhino, Fusion360, SolidWorks)
• Keen interest in technological advancements in the marine industry (electrical & mechanical)
• Knowledge of rules & regulations related to yacht design (CE, ABYC Lloyds, etc.)
• Dynamic and practically minded individual
• Hands on approach to solving production challenges
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• Familiar with design office management systems, processes & procedures
• Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise workload
• Treat confidential information with respect

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Tertiary qualification in engineering/design
• 5 years experience working in a design/draughting office or senior technical role within the marine industry

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Driver’s license and own transportation
• South African citizens preferred (or foreign nationals with valid work permits)
