Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced and visionary Programmes Director to lead strategic growth across our conservation and education work.

This executive role partners with the CEO to align programme delivery with national priorities and our mission. You'll oversee strategy, implementation, impact measurement, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.

Annual salary range for this position is R501,000-R555,000 total Cost to Company, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Programme Development and Oversight
  • Work closely with the CEO to ensure alignment of programme goals with organisational strategy and national priorities
  • Put short-, medium- and long-term programme strategies and targets in place
  • Ensure a high percentage of successful programme implementations
  • Apply innovative programme design to maximise impact
  • Ensure M&E frameworks are solid and regularly conduct analyses
  • Financial Stewardship and Resource Mobilization
  • Implement effective budget allocation, cost management and financial forecasting
  • Contribute to growth in fundraising and income diversification
  • Ensure sustainability of financial planning
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
  • Strengthen and grow internal and external strategic collaborations
  • Ensure a high degree of donor satisfaction and retention rates
  • Assist in building public perception and brand influence
  • Help build the effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts
  • Team Leadership and Capacity Building
  • Drive staff training and development participation
  • Apply talent management strategies to ensure employee retention and satisfaction
  • Help build the organisational culture, collaboration and teamwork
  • Drive the growth of the volunteer programme
  • Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management
  • Ensure adherence across teams to policies and regulatory standards
  • Continuously assess risk and apply mitigation strategies
  • Ensure operational efficiency and administrative effectiveness
  • Comply with donor agreements and report accordingly

Qualifications And Requirements

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • At least 10 years of project management experience, a good proportion of which should be in the environmental sector
  • A postgraduate degree and a deep passion aligning with our Mission
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with MS products
  • A valid driver's license (Code B) with at least 5 years of driving experience
  • Fundraising or donor management experience is an added advantage
