Job description

The incumbent is responsible for the overall coordination and management of safe and efficient receiving, handling, production, and distribution of products from Avery Dennison SA to customers. They must ensure compliance with ISO Standards, OHS Act, Safety Standards, and maintain sound industrial relations. The role also involves managing budgets and minimizing inventory losses to less than 1%. The job purpose extends beyond these responsibilities.

People Leadership: Providing functional leadership to Slitting Operators, Material Handlers, Operations Clerks, and Assistant Operators to enhance technical excellence and process efficiency.

Responsibilities include:

Safety and Security:

• Accountability for the Johannesburg DC.
• Maintain a safe workplace, review safety statistics, and recommend improvements.
• Supervise safety training and liaise with EHS Department to promote safety awareness.

Production and Distribution:

• Plan weekly production and distribution to optimize resources.
• Ensure SLAs are met and improved where necessary.
• Manage equipment, address nonconformances, and optimize production capacity.
• Ensure products meet quality standards and ISO 9001 compliance.
• Investigate nonconformances and explore recycling/reworking options.

Production Management:

• Oversee overall production management at the Distribution Centre.
• Lead and motivate the operations team, establish expectations, and provide feedback.
• Monitor performance and maintain industrial relations.

Inventory and Fleet Management:

• Monitor and control inventories, conduct cycle counts, and investigate variances.
• Manage distribution accuracy, vehicle maintenance, and cost reduction.

Staff Development:

• Ensure adequate resourcing, training, and development of staff.
• Monitor performance, support career development, and improve communication.
• Implement 5S and maintain the DC's appearance and housekeeping standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Grade 12 and recognized qualifications in Production Supervision, Management, Logistics, or Operations Management.
• Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing or logistics, with 3 years supervisory/managerial experience managing a distribution centre.
