What You Will Do

The Utilities Technician is responsible for overseeing and performing a wide range of electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks on all facilities equipment. This role involves troubleshooting complex systems, coordinating inspections, and ensuring the proper functioning of machinery through repairs and preventive maintenance. Additionally, the Utilities Technician will manage maintenance documentation, train lower-level technicians, and lead safety and environmental management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance and major repairs on facilities equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems to identify and resolve malfunctions.
  • Coordinate inspections and tests of machinery and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the dismantling and installation of defective machines and equipment parts.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system for work orders and preventive maintenance entries.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, part requisitions, and preventive maintenance inspection records.
  • Train lower-level technicians on safe work practices, equipment handling, chemical usage, and protective gear.
  • Drive compliance with safety, environmental, and energy management systems.
  • Lead and supervise the work of other technicians, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Install and repair pipe systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, gauges, valves, and pressure regulators.
  • Schedule and coordinate complex building projects including wall installation, cable and service outlet repairs, plastering, and painting.

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Electrical or millwright trade test successfully completed.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance, preferably in a utilities setting.
  • Installation of electrical boxes, DB Boards, other enclosures, conduits (pipes, tubing, trunking), ground leads and connecting of power to different equipment/machinery.
  • Performing maintenance and identifying maintenance requirements on electrical equipment.
  • Fault finding.
  • Ensuring that preventative maintenance is executed according to schedule.
  • Assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Must adhere to the relevant electrical codes, procedures & safety policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electronic schematics.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Assembly, installation, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Performance of mechanical work when required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in supervising contractors.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, pipefitting, and related equipment.
  • Certification in HVAC, plumbing, or other relevant trades.
