Functional Responsibilities

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative to support the development and implementation of ambitious National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP) and collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and, ultimately, the global vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. Under the leadership of the governments of Colombia and Germany, it brings together countries with a Whole of Government and a Whole of Society approach to strengthen global, regional, and national ambition on biodiversity action. The partnership promotes NBSAPs, nature-positive action, and supports implementation through matchmaking, knowledge access, capacity development, and coordination.

UNOPS seeks a Technical Advisor – Environmental (Facilitator) to support the Global Programme on Nature for Development in delivering key tasks. This role involves representing the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership within the host government or regional institution, facilitating NBSAP implementation, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess NBSAP Landscape: Identify biodiversity priorities, capacity needs, and challenges; facilitate stakeholder mapping and multi-stakeholder dialogues; develop work plans; monitor progress.
  • Mobilize Support: Identify needs, assist in designing support requests, submit them to relevant platforms, support resource mobilization.
  • Coordinate Action: Foster collaboration among initiatives, strengthen national structures, share best practices, facilitate knowledge exchange, coordinate efforts.
  • Monitoring and Progress Controls: Maintain communication with national focal points and coordinators; prepare reports on progress, challenges, and expenditures.
Education, Experience, and Language Requirements

  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s) in environmental science, biodiversity, or related field with 7 years of relevant experience; or undergraduate degree with 9 years of experience.
  • Experience: Experience in biodiversity conservation, project management, facilitation, stakeholder engagement; familiarity with NBSAPs and CBD is desirable.
  • Languages: Fluency in English required; a second UN language is desirable.
