Requirements:
  • MBChB degree or equivalent medical qualification that allows registration with HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner.
  • Current registration as an independent medical practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Advantages include surgical rotation experience under consultant supervision during community service or post-community service, laparoscopic experience, or voluntary work in surgery.
  • Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Duties:
  • Provide comprehensive care for surgical patients under the supervision of senior consultants.
  • Engage in supervision and teaching of medical students, interns, and nursing staff.
  • Willing to work longer hours, including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team in various procedures, contributing to patient care plans.
  • Undertake MMed degree registration with the university as part of career development.

  • Positions are joint appointments between the Gauteng Department of Health and academic institutions: University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, and Sefako Makgatho University.
