Fives Services Southern Africa is actively seeking a Proposal Engineer to join its teams in Richards Bay, South Africa.

The Proposal Engineer will:

• Assist Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimates for projects, upgrades, modernization, services, repairs, and sales strategies for aluminium smelters.
• Travel to customer sites as needed.

Responsibilities

Proposals

• Receive and review tenders/RFQ specifications.
• Coordinate with suppliers, prepare scopes of work, submit RFQ, review proposals, and select suppliers.
• Meet tender deadlines.
• Request quotations from engineering and material suppliers.
• Draft proposals and commercial estimates for review and approval.
• Follow up during client evaluation until order placement.
• Handle project hand-overs upon order receipt.
• Participate in project close-out meetings to improve future proposals.
• Support repair proposals with reviews and bills of materials.
• Interpret technical manuals and parts lists to assist proposal building.
• Conduct site inspections as needed.

Equipment Repairs

• Review repair RFQs with the Key Account Manager.
• Align customer requests with technical, operational, and cost considerations.
• Assist in preparing repair cost estimates and develop sales strategies.

Qualifications

• South African Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• At least N.Dip. in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.

Experience

• Project costing or estimating experience required.
• Supply chain or purchasing experience beneficial.
• Knowledge of project management principles advantageous.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Projects.
• Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment repair is a plus.
• Ability to apply technical knowledge to client solutions.
• Understanding of site work processes for proposal development.
