Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as a Technical Advisor to the Natural Resources business line on all HSE related areas, including legal compliance, client requirements, and Health & Safety Management Systems requirements as per local and global standards.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Natural Resources business line Top Page for all sites.
  • Conduct H&S training aligned with HSMS as needed.
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments, in line with Risk Assessment projects.
  • Manage clear HSE communication between role players (H&S, Coordinators, and Management).
  • Facilitate H&S projects and support their roll-out and implementation.
  • Implement Global H&S Initiatives throughout Natural Resources (e.g., Safe Start, Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Safe Talks, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS).
  • Facilitate the Reward & Recognition program for the group.
  • Report and manage H&S incidents, near misses, hazards, and best practices.
  • Participate in Incident Investigations as required.
  • Report incidents and near misses into Crystal.
  • Conduct SAT Internal Audits and Compliance Visits, providing guidance on improvements.
  • Assist with the coordinating of the BCM program.
  • Maintain visibility on all sites to demonstrate H&S commitment.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  • Support overall OI strategy with reasonable tasks.

Specific Authorities

  • Identify, plan, recommend, and complete H&S programs aligning with strategies.
  • Coordinate with H&S Managers and Coordinators.
  • Implement HSMS / IMS and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and self-assessments for compliance verification.
  • Support site projects with H&S expertise.
  • Investigate incidents and report findings timely.
  • Implement SGS-wide H&S activities and initiatives.
  • Cease unsafe equipment use and unsafe work practices.
  • Initiate improvement requests for deviations or nonconformities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • SAMTRAC or equivalent Certificate (NQF 5)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of administrative and relevant HSE management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and report writing.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of applicable legislations (OHS Act, Mine Act).
  • Understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001.
  • Experience in auditing, investigation, and risk assessment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
