The Occupational Health Nurse will provide medical care, health advice, and wellness programs to employees, promoting a healthy and safe work environment. This role involves conducting medical assessments, developing health programs, and collaborating with management to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. Employee will be required to work standby and overtime.
PRIMARY HEALTH CARE:
- Diagnosis and treatment of day-to-day illnesses.
- Monitoring and treatment of chronic illnesses within limits of legislation.
- Treatment of minor injuries sustained at home.
- Referral of employees and liaison with other health care agencies.
- Identify and diagnose employees with social problems and coordinate their treatment in line with company policy.
- Treatment of minor injuries on duty.
- Emergency treatment of serious injuries on duty.
- Referral of serious injuries on duty for medical attention.
- Promote a high standard of health for all employees.
- Liaise with the safety committee where possible.
- Participation in Emergency planning.
- Conduct regular walk-throughs of the premises.
- Participate in the identification, control and prevention of occupational hazards.
- Conduct monthly inspections of the ablutions, kitchen and canteen facilities and report to the client.
- Maintain updated MSDS reference file correlating with an updated list of HCS.
- Perform certificate of fitness screening interventions in accordance with the medical surveillance and / risk profile of client employees.
- Refer abnormal findings from medical surveillance to OMP.
- Participate in workplace assessments/site walkabout/inspections.
- Explain screening outcomes to clients.
- Ensure the accurate, legal-scientific recording of services as a continuing event on a continuous basis.
- General administration and budget management.
- Organisation of daily clinic routine.
- Adherence to the Scope of Services (Client contract).
- Keep records in accordance with legislation.
- Attend meetings and collect statistical data.
- Provide monthly professional reports to the client.
- Submit orders for medications, stationery, etc.
- Administer COID Act claims as required.
- Manage storage and control of medicines.
- Participate in cost-saving interventions and meet clinic budget targets.
- Ensure daily checks are carried out as per policies/procedures.
- Report faulty equipment to the Site Manager / Contracts Manager.
- Implement correct waste segregation.
- Participate in the orientation of new and locum personnel.
- Manage stock levels and report non-conformances.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and share best practices.
- Ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in annual clinic audits and review operations for quality standards.
- Implement national quality initiatives to improve clinical outcomes.
- Adhere to medical surveillance plans based on hygiene survey reports.
- Draft annual medical surveillance programs and ensure timely patient care.
- Attend to emergency cases and provide professional customer service.
- Maintain interpersonal relationships with staff and patients.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BTech or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.
- Diploma or degree in Nursing.
- Qualification in Primary Healthcare is advantageous.
- 2-3 years experience in Primary Health and Occupational Health.
- Registered and in good standing as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
- Certificates in Audiometric and Hearing Assessment, Spirometry Testing, and Vision Testing.
Other Requirements:
- At least 3 years mining-related experience.
