Job description

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences has a growing reputation as a leading educational provider for undergraduate and postgraduate professional Psychology programmes. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences is seeking to permanently appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer within the Department of Psychology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  1. Teaching and learning at undergraduate and Psychology Honours level.
  2. Teaching on the professional Masters Clinical Psychology programme.
  3. Research supervision of Psychology Honours and Masters level students.
  4. Research supervision of Doctoral level students, if in possession of a PhD.
  5. Clinical supervision of Masters level students.
  6. Participation in research, curriculum development and staff development.
  7. Developing industry and academic partnerships.
  8. Engaging in community outreach.
  9. Responsible for administrative duties within the department, faculty and the university.

At Senior Lecturer level:

  • A PhD in Psychology.
  • Master’s degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist.
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Postgraduate research supervision experience.
  • A current record of successful peer-reviewed publications.
  • Knowledge and experience with teaching related to competencies at the Masters Clinical Psychology level.
  • Experience with clinical supervision in therapy or psychological assessment.

Added Advantages:

  • A PhD in Psychology or progressing towards a PhD (for Lecturer level).
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching related to competencies at the Masters Clinical Psychology level (e.g., psychopathology, therapeutic interventions, neuropsychology, and psychological assessment).
