Job Description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading non-profit organization that specializes in building safety, sustainability, and technical compliance services for public and private sector clients. With a strong commitment to enhancing community resilience, disaster recovery, and energy efficiency, this organization is experiencing significant growth and is seeking a Senior Director of Business Development to spearhead their expansion into federal markets.

About The Role

This is a pivotal leadership position where you will play a key role in driving business strategy, expanding market reach, and developing new revenue streams within the federal built environment, energy, and infrastructure services sectors. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute a long-term strategic growth plan, leveraging the organization's extensive technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Business Development:
  1. Develop and execute long-term and annual growth strategies to expand the organization's presence in federal and other key markets.
  2. Lead business development initiatives, identifying new opportunities and cultivating high-value relationships with key government agencies, contractors, and industry partners.
  3. Spearhead strategic partnerships, teaming agreements, and new market exploration to enhance service offerings.
Federal Market Expansion
  1. Focus on expanding the organization’s footprint in federal government contracts, grants, and technical service agreements.
  2. Utilize deep industry knowledge to identify emerging federal opportunities and position the organization as a trusted partner for infrastructure, compliance, and sustainability solutions.
Leadership & Team Development
  1. Lead and mentor the Capture, Marketing, and Proposal teams, ensuring alignment with overall growth strategies.
  2. Provide guidance and training to internal teams on proposal development, branding, and client engagement.
Pipeline & Performance Management
  1. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development, ensuring accountability for revenue growth.
  2. Track, analyze, and optimize business pipeline metrics to maximize conversion and revenue potential.
  3. Oversee market research initiatives to stay ahead of industry trends and position the organization as a thought leader.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  1. Work closely with technical and program teams to align business development efforts with operational capabilities.
  2. Partner with government associations and industry stakeholders to enhance the organization’s reputation and leverage strategic alliances.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Extensive Federal Sector Expertise – Proven experience securing and managing contracts within federal agencies, infrastructure projects, or sustainability programs.
  • Strong Business Development Leadership – 10+ years of professional leadership experience, with at least 8 years in business development, preferably in the federal market.
  • Visionary & Strategic Thinker – Able to drive high-level business planning, revenue forecasting, and market positioning efforts.
  • Established Industry Network – A well-connected leader with strong relationships in the federal infrastructure, built environment, and sustainability sectors.
  • Data-Driven & Results-Oriented – Ability to develop performance-driven strategies using data analytics, KPIs, and competitive intelligence.
  • Entrepreneurial Leadership – A “player-coach” mentality, willing to lead hands-on business development efforts while also coaching and mentoring teams.
