Job Description

The company currently has a vacancy for a motivated, professional, and attentive to detail Health and Safety Officer to join their team and drive company health and safety initiatives and programmes. This position requires someone energetic and able to work in a fast-paced, pressurized environment and travel between branches. The successful candidate will:

  1. Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including safety induction and training.
  2. Promote and ensure adherence to the safety policy and procedures.
  3. Keep management up to date and informed about legislative requirements regarding health and safety.
  4. Create safety procedures and develop training programmes to enhance safe working conditions.
  5. Review and update emergency procedures as necessary.
  6. Conduct site inspections and audits to identify and minimize risks to the company and employees.
  7. Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards, investigate root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  8. Conduct workplace hazard identification and risk assessments.
  9. Design and implement responses to the above-mentioned HIRA's.
  10. Inspect the workplace to determine if machinery, plant, equipment, substances, appliances, or processes could cause injury.
  11. Investigate accidents, near-misses, dangerous occurrences, or occupational diseases.
  12. Design and implement responses to prevent recurrence.
  13. Compile and submit health and safety reports to management and third parties as required.
  14. Ensure compliance with legislative, by-law, and permit requirements.
  15. Keep management informed of legislative changes and implications.
  16. Liaise with the Department of Employment and Labour as needed.
  17. Assist with maintaining ISO systems.
  18. Monitor contractors and vendors working on company sites to ensure safety practices are upheld.
Qualifying Experience
  1. Grade 12 or equivalent.
  2. National Diploma in Safety and/or Environmental Management or similar.
  3. Safety management certification (e.g., SHEMTRAC, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH IGC).
  4. Proficiency in MS Office.
  5. Understanding of ISO 14001 & 9001 maintenance.
  6. 3-5 years’ experience in a safety role within a production, manufacturing, engineering, or construction environment.
  7. Extensive knowledge of the OHS Act & regulations.
  8. Registration with SAIOSH and SACPCMP is advantageous.
  9. Practical, hands-on approach.
  10. Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.

Job type: Permanent.

Standard Hours
  • 07h30–17h00: Monday – Thursday.
