Job description

Overview : Purpose : To support the internal financial and operating control environment for the affiliate, encompassing general ledger production, statutory, regulatory, and financial reporting, enhancing financial information systems, capital management, tax compliance, and overseeing all Accounts Payable functions.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Finance Strategy Implementation : Engage with the finance director to review and translate the finance strategy into actionable plans. Ensure budget inputs are accurate and monitor deviations. Manage long-range planning and budget requirements to achieve group objectives. Maintain visibility of finance strategy in all affiliate finance activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement : Engage with internal and external customers to understand needs and enhance financial reporting. Conduct needs analysis, identify problem areas, and implement solutions. Encourage innovation within Group Finance to provide necessary financial insights.
  3. Coordinate annual audits and manage audit requests : Work closely with external auditors to plan and conduct annual audits of all business units.
  4. Statutory, Regulatory, and Financial Reporting : Comply with all South African regulatory requirements for submissions. Take ownership of balance sheet and income statement, focusing on financial and risk components. Review and ensure timely submission of statutory and regulatory reports. Prepare and review ongoing and ad hoc reports and presentations. Ensure completeness and accuracy of annual financial statements. Manage consolidated flash and forecast results. Oversee monthly accounting processes and reporting timetables. Coordinate the preparation of all reporting to SARS and seek directives in areas where tax legislation is not specific.
  5. Tax Management : Ensure compliance with South African tax regulations affecting the affiliate. Manage the affiliate's tax exposure to minimize impact on profits. Coordinate preparation of all reporting to SARS.
  6. Accounts Payable : Ensure accurate and timely payment for goods and services contracted by the businesses. Allocate entries to the general ledger appropriately.
  7. Internal Financial Controls : Develop control processes to ensure integrity of financial reporting. Identify and mitigate risks. Ensure compliance with regulatory, statutory, and group accounting requirements. Manage risks related to physical infrastructure, information integrity, and process compliance. Provide project capability for changes to accounting, statutory, and regulatory frameworks to ensure smooth reporting transitions.
  8. Effective Teamwork and Self-Management : Act in ways consistent with the group's brand and values. Handle stress positively and manage workflow efficiently. Promote ethical practices and cooperation to achieve shared goals. Encourage teamwork and collaboration within the finance function. Plan and manage own workflow, anticipating obstacles, juggling priorities, and following through on objectives within agreed time-frames and according to quality standards.

Qualifications and Experience : CA (SA), BCompt (Finance), or BCom (Fin). 3-5 years proven professional experience in a senior finance function. At least 5-7 years work experience as a Financial Controller. Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes : Strong understanding of statutory, regulatory, and financial reporting. Proficiency in financial information systems and capital management. In-depth knowledge of tax compliance and risk management. Ability to develop and implement effective financial controls. Ethical and transparent conduct. Commitment to group values and brand. Constructive issue resolution and teamwork.
