SGS Matrolab is seeking to fulfill key roles as Civil Engineering Site Laboratory Managers. The role requires the incumbent to manage a site laboratory and oversee all laboratory-related tasks, including implementation, maintenance, and improvement of quality systems. The goal is to ensure smooth laboratory operations with excellent quality of service, cost efficiency, accuracy, productivity, and profitability. Responsibilities include regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment, completion of materials testing across all laboratory divisions (soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate), and carrying out work instructions from authorized personnel.

The ideal candidate will be disciplined, respectful, deadline and revenue-driven, energetic, and passionate about maintaining good staff relationships. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering performance against strategic objectives, ensuring adherence to quality and testing standards, and promptly reporting deviations.

Job Description

Primary Job Responsibilities

1. Report to the relevant Regional Manager.
2. Manage laboratory production planning and ensure deadlines are met.
3. Liaise with clients and regional management.
4. Ensure accuracy of reports before signing and distribution.
5. Implement quality control systems and health and safety regulations.
6. Manage multidisciplinary site laboratories including soils, concrete, asphalt, seals, and aggregates.
7. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of SGS management system.
8. Assist technicians with site or laboratory tasks as instructed.
9. Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisors or regional managers.
10. Follow SGS policies and procedures, including payroll, leave, and disciplinary procedures.
11. Provide training based on identified needs.
12. Ensure completion of mandatory SGS training.
13. Submit timesheets, claim forms, and payroll instructions promptly.

Qualifications

• Education: Grade 12 & Civil/Geotechnical/National Diploma.
• Experience: 10 years relevant experience.

Competencies

• Driver's License.
• SANAS certificates in Lab Systems & Internal Auditing.
• Qualified to perform tests (TMH 1 and SANS) in all laboratory divisions.
• Qualified in laboratory quality control and implementation.
• Qualified to supervise and perform all field work.
• Knowledge of COLTO.
• Understanding of Health and Safety standards.
