Job description

The key function of this position is to be a network and server engineer, with specific focus on cybersecurity.

This role is responsible for developing and implementing secure network solutions, conducting assessments and penetration testing with remediation, managing audit/intrusion detection and security technology systems, and architecting and engineering trusted systems into secure systems. The role will also involve designing, implementing, and supporting NAC (Network Access Control) solutions, Firewall Management, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), SOC (Security Operations Center) solutions, and vendor management. Additionally, responsibilities include managing switching & server architecture and solutions, encryption solutions, MFA (Multi-factor authentication) solutions, assisting with IoT device security, and Wi-Fi solutions.

Main Functions of the Job
  1. Evaluate cybersecurity needs and provide recommendations.
  2. Establish best practices and standards.
  3. Review system changes for security implications and recommend improvements.
  4. Implement and oversee cybersecurity measures.
  5. Respond to cybersecurity issues, including incident response, notification, resolution, and logging.
  6. Manage problems in supported systems with resolution and logging.
  7. Maintain interactive relationships with management.
  8. Maintain security, IT, and environmental networks/servers across all sites.
  9. Maintain Wi-Fi networks across all sites.
  10. Manage network monitoring and backup tools.
  11. Participate in network design.
  12. Engage with OEMs and technical consultants.
  13. Configure, install, and maintain network switches.
  14. Maintain Check Point Firewall policies and documentation.
  15. Manage capacity and change control logs related to supported systems.
  16. Prepare monthly reports.
  17. Monitor and report on ISO standards as they relate to supported systems.
  18. Monitor cybersecurity and information security, including reporting.
Skills Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience identifying threats and developing protection measures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Accountability and ownership.
  • Ability to follow rules and procedures.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity methodologies.
  • Strong team player, self-confident, motivated, and independent.
  • Current knowledge of technology capabilities and trends.
  • Understanding of hacking techniques and attack vectors.
  • Knowledge of OSI model, ports, and services is advantageous.
  • Significant low-level networking experience with TCP/IP stack is advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Matric certificate.
  • CCNA with experience on Aruba and Dell switches.
  • CCNP or equivalent (advantageous).
  • MCSE.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a networking role.
  • Excellent understanding of switching, routing, TCP/IP, IP addressing, CIDR, and DNS.
  • Experience with STP, VPN technologies, OSPF, BGP.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy environment.
  • Valid South African Driver's License.
  • Aruba ClearPass experience is advantageous; certification required within 3 years if not already certified.
  • Checkpoint firewall certification is advantageous; certification required within 1 year if not already certified.
  • Achieve Checkpoint CCCM certification within 3 years.
  • Potential for security-related certifications or capacity to acquire a Public Trust security clearance is advantageous.
