Job Responsibilities
- Optimizing the HR organization and HR processes & procedures in the SSA Region.
- Implementing HR policies & processes aligned with corporate guidelines and regional specifications.
- Reviewing, updating, and implementing policies and procedures for the region.
- Developing local policies and procedures for the SSA entity in alignment with local management.
- Managing and coordinating HR functions and activities in the SSA region in alignment with regional MDs.
- Interacting with local MDs and MEA HR to develop local HR strategies supporting business strategies.
- Handling workforce planning, staffing, recruiting, and onboarding for all staff in Evonik Africa.
- Implementing performance management and talent development initiatives, including skills development plans.
- Assisting MEA HR during job grading and salary band alignment across SSA.
- Providing annual salary and bonus calculation proposals to the Head of HR MEA.
- Handling employment contracts, offer letters, job descriptions, and ensuring compliance with local legislation.
- Coordinating medical aid issues, pension fund issues, and serving on pension fund committees for SSA.
- Managing personnel and disciplinary topics within SSA in alignment with local MDs.
- Supporting Evonik Africa and Evonik Peroxide plant employees operationally.
- Ensuring timely updates of personnel files, master database, and Workday elements; maintaining employee documentation.
- Managing HR administrative elements for Evonik Africa office and Peroxide plant, including union liaison.
- Filing employee documentation and handling employment equity submissions for Evonik Africa & EPA.
- Managing B-BBEE HR elements for Evonik Africa.
- Handling tax-related processes including EMPs, IRP5s, and monthly SARS payments.
- Assisting employees with salary queries and liaising with finance as needed.
Preferred but Not Mandatory Responsibilities
- Managing internal payroll, including external payroll steering for EA, EPA, Ghana & Kenya.
- Performing quarterly salary reconciliation, provisions, and managing leave registers.
Minimum Requirements
- University degree, preferably in HR or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience in SSA.
- Experience in multinational / corporate environments.
- Knowledge of BBBEE, employment equity, workman's compensation, unions, and insurances.
- Experience with HR ERP systems; Workday knowledge is preferred.
- At least 3 years of payroll administration experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Flexibility to travel between Durban and Midrand.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Zulu, Afrikaans, or other local languages is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently, providing guidance on policies and motivating employees.
