Job description

KONE is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Technical Field Support Team Leader for our Johannesburg, South Africa office. This role involves supporting the Technical Field Support organization in solving complex technical issues and disseminating technical knowledge. Our team consists of maintenance professionals providing onsite service to our customers.

The ideal candidate will lead and participate in resolving callouts and other complex technical issues logged at the Technical Helpdesk, offering remote support to maintenance technicians and onsite support when necessary.

In this role, you will embody KONE's values daily and serve as a role model. You will lead the team to ensure quality service, enhance equipment safety and performance, and promote proactive onsite communication with customers and equipment users. The candidate should have experience in both installation and maintenance of elevators and escalators, including conducting tests and final inspections on all KONE products onsite. Experience with various elevator and escalator types is advantageous.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring safe working practices and operations in accordance with maintenance and safety instructions to safeguard end-users and staff.
  2. Resolving complex technical issues assigned by the Technical Helpdesk.
  3. Scheduling initial visits for new equipment from competitors or KONE.
  4. Identifying technical issues in maintained equipment that could lead to callouts or safety hazards, fixing issues, creating sales leads, or communicating with management.
  5. Identifying technical competence gaps for maintaining new equipment and communicating these to supervisors.
  6. Providing feedback on repairs or adjustments to reduce callouts and maintaining communication with the Technical Helpdesk Manager.
  7. Contributing to product, method, and safety improvements through feedback.
  8. Planning the team’s workload effectively in coordination with the THD Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. N6 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus an elevator trade test certificate.
  2. At least 5 years of experience installing and/or maintaining elevators.
  3. Minimum 2 years of team leadership experience.
  4. Knowledge of KONE and competitor products is beneficial.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  6. Experience with escalators is essential.
  7. Valid driver’s license.
