JOB DESCRIPTION

VAS-X is looking to recruit a Graduate Developer to service our telecommunications clients.

You will be involved in a range of development activities, focusing on front-end web applications, backend database applications, and REST web services. Your daily tasks will include designing and developing new features for web applications, testing, fixing bugs, and exploring potential changes for integration into existing user interfaces.

Your duties will also encompass developing and maintaining web applications, creating technical documentation, and handling technical support requests. This role is suitable for a recent graduate with knowledge of Java, SQL, and current web technologies, and an interest in learning Go. On-the-job training and relevant courses will be provided.

Due to the critical nature of the work, occasional outside-of-hours work may be required.

ABOUT YOU

• Grade 12
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
• IT Degree or Diploma
• Knowledge of Java, including J2EE, Spring, CAMEL, and related technologies
• Experience with CSS and HTML
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems
• Strong SQL skills and experience with industry-standard databases
• Understanding of J2EE containers and web servers
• Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Experience with Scrum/Agile methodologies
• Resides in Cape Town

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Developing and maintaining service platform components such as web applications, RESTful APIs, database applications, and Java-based applications
• Managing deployment, installation, and configuration of software releases
• Managing cloud-based infrastructure assets
• Maintaining platforms like VXVIEW, ERA, SOA, and XTREME to ensure service levels
• Translating user requirements into technical specifications and code
• Participating in quality reviews and testing
• Creating technical documentation
• Contributing to technical decision-making
• Assisting with technical support requests
• Reporting progress to senior developers and project managers
• Attending conferences and workshops as needed
• Facilitating UAT sessions with customers
• Participating in cross-service projects
• Performing other duties as assigned
