Job description

Job Title: Proposal and Sales Engineer (Power Generation)

The main purpose of this position is to formulate quotations and tenders related to all power generation products, services, and technologies in which the company participates.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Matric
  • A recognized and relevant technical qualification (e.g., S4 or N6 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering)
  • At least 3-5 years' work experience in the diesel generators industry, with experience in a similar position preferred
  • CAD experience is advantageous
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and MS Projects
Duties and Responsibilities
Proposals / Sales
  • Manage tender documents and quotations, including costing schedules
  • Ensure tenders and quotations meet company and customer terms and conditions
  • Review customer specifications for compliance (commercial and technical)
  • Gather and compile all documentation required for tender submissions
  • Perform cost calculations to determine project margins and pricing, and confirm stock availability
  • Coordinate with customers, company branches, and business units regarding tenders/quotations
  • Develop solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Ensure all technical literature in tenders is current and relevant
  • Obtain latest prices from group companies and suppliers for costing
  • Assist Business Development with technical clarifications and design evaluation
  • Review and interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for costing
  • Summarize tenders for evaluation
  • Conduct site inspections when required for accurate quotations
Customers
  • Assist customers with technical queries and support
  • Follow up on tender statuses and participate in pre-order negotiations
  • Conduct product launches and participate in trade shows
  • Build and maintain customer relationships and generate new business
Other Responsibilities
  • Handle sales administration tasks
  • Improve internal systems and procedures continuously
  • Provide product training internally and externally
  • Monitor developments in engineering and energy sectors
  • Process sales orders via SYSPRO, including confirmations, delivery notes, and invoices
  • Ensure timely deliveries
  • Monitor customer account status
  • Issue project handover instructions
  • Maintain electronic quotation system
  • Complete orders and quotations within 24 hours
