Since its establishment, part of renewable energy frontrunner Release by Scatec has been developing and deploying a unique, flexible leasing solution of pre-assembled and modular solar and battery equipment for the mining and utilities market.

Recently announced funding by Climate Fund Managers will enable our dynamic, young team in its ambition to power and electrify Africa.

We are present in several countries in Africa and in the Americas, and are headquartered in Oslo, Norway.

Main purpose of position

Currently, we are looking for a Project Engineering Lead to be based in Cape Town, South Africa, and be part of our global team.

The Project Engineering function is primarily responsible for engineering services and support to projects.

The primary mandate of the Project Engineering Lead is to produce and deliver the technical deliverables required by the projects he/she is assigned to and to drive any technical processes within such projects.

A Project Engineering Lead is involved in a project throughout the implementation phase, is formally assigned at the start of the structuring phase, and formally hands over duties at the start of the power production phase to the Technical Asset Management team.

Within his/her function, the Project Engineering Lead reports to the Project Engineering Manager and, within a project, to the Project Manager.

The Project Engineering Lead works closely with the implementation team and site electrical leads.

Main responsibilities
  1. Leading the implementation engineering workstreams: Proactively plan, manage, and produce project engineering deliverables according to the Release Operating System process, the Release Master Document List, and specific project requirements.
  2. Participate in project handovers: Drive efficient technical handovers from development to asset management.
  3. Technical support to project teams: Provide day-to-day technical support, training, and guidance to project teams.
  4. Support procurement: Collaborate on technical procurement work, including BoQ reviews and supplier interactions.
  5. Coordinate technical reviews: Oversee engineering deliverables like design drawings, calculations, BoQs, testing, and handover documentation.
  6. Technical coordination with third parties: Interface with equipment suppliers, service providers, and clients.
  7. Reporting: Regularly update management on technical deliverables, challenges, risks, and opportunities.

Additional interfaces include interactions with product engineering, technical development, procurement, project management, site teams, document control, and quality assurance functions, ensuring smooth project execution and technical excellence.

Qualifications and competencies
  • Engineering Degree, preferably Electrical
  • 7+ years electrical engineering experience
  • 5+ years EPC/construction project experience
  • 3+ years renewable energy sector experience (solar PV, BESS advantageous)
  • Advanced electrical engineering knowledge
  • Understanding of procurement and construction processes
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, project management tools
  • Valid driver's license

Strong organizational, managerial, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and resolve conflicts effectively.
