takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Occupational Health and Safety Officer to join our Supply Chain team in Cape Town DC.

This position reports to the Risk and Security Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring all safety documentation is signed off by relevant employees.
  • Conducting and signing off environmental, housekeeping, and safety surveys with stakeholders.
  • Properly signing off and updating appointment records for trained employees.
  • Maintaining updated employee files with all relevant documentation.
  • Ensuring external legal documents are in place.
  • Scheduling and maintaining training, especially for upcoming expirations or required sessions.
  • Informing management of any health, safety, or environmental issues that could cause harm.
  • Completing and signing off on all safety checklists and inspections regularly.
  • Resolving faults identified during inspections.
  • Holding at least one H&S meeting per month with an appointed H&S committee.
  • Ensuring all H&S policies are signed off.
  • Coordinating emergency exit and fire drills with management.
  • Ensuring employee compliance with safety regulations and proper training.
  • Identifying new risks, conducting risk assessments, and training employees on safe procedures.
  • Ensuring contractor compliance with H&S standards as per SOP.
Qualifications and attributes:
  • Diploma in Health and Safety, Samtrac, or Nebosh certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Mathematically inclined with analytical and auditing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Energetic, capable of working in a high-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and improve.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and flexibility.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the health and safety system and documentation.
