Job description

Our client based in Isando, Johannesburg is seeking a BIM Specialist to join their team.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE : The BIM Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes for the company's operational facilities.

The Specialist will assist the Senior BIM, Drawing Office, and Technical Standards Manager (multi-role) "BDOTS."

Main Functions of the Job
  1. Develop, publish, and implement BIM standards, protocols, and processes based on best practices.
  2. Establish company-specific drawing naming conventions aligned with ISO standards and manage a centralized drawing repository for all facilities, including historical, new, and operational projects.
  3. Train team members and relevant stakeholders in BIM use, standards, protocols, processes, and best practices.
  4. Ensure models and design data conform to company BIM standards through review, coordination, and verification.
  5. Manage BIM Digital Twins, including live models and data sets handed over from departments.
  6. Facilitate collaboration among colleagues, external consultants, and clients to resolve technical issues and maintain data fidelity.
  7. Work closely with internal teams and external architects to ensure as-built data fidelity for existing facilities.
  8. Coordinate with Document Controllers to migrate as-built and handover data between BIM environment and SharePoint.
  9. Establish processes with infrastructure management to ensure BIM best practices and policies are followed.
  10. Develop effective BIM workflows for cross-departmental collaboration.
  11. Evaluate and implement new BIM tools, techniques, and technologies for continuous improvement.
  12. Assist in achieving and maintaining ISO certification for BIM within the company.
  13. Monitor and report on BIM process performance monthly to support continuous development.
  14. Ensure BIM best practices are propagated to the supply chain vendors involved in projects.
  15. Support the Drawing Office in architectural design and coordination, especially during resource shortages.
Skills Requirements
  • Proven experience in main functions of the role.
  • Strong knowledge of BIM standards, protocols, and best practices.
  • Understanding of linking models from various sources.
  • Leadership and project management skills for building BIM systems.
  • High attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency and active listening skills.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of a B.Tech in Architectural Technology or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Certification in Autodesk CAD software, with at least 5 years' experience in Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and BIM.
  • Experience as an Autodesk Certified Instructor or in training resources is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of management experience, preferably in team management or cross-department collaboration.
  • Familiarity with international BIM best practices.
