Corporate Banker (Global Corporate Banking) - VP

As a Corporate Banker in our Global Corporate Banking (GCB) team, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our business in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

You will collaborate with product and global coverage partners to manage a comprehensive suite of corporate banking products, fostering relationships across our global network.

Job Summary

Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, you will be instrumental in growing our GCB SSA business. Your role involves working closely with investment banking coverage and product bankers to pitch new engagements and develop client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Identify finance and risk management opportunities in partnership with J.P. Morgan teams.
  2. Implement and coordinate tailored marketing of products with product partners, addressing client needs.
  3. Lead origination and execution of bank financings, including contract negotiation and due diligence.
  4. Manage credit risk and internal approval processes for loans and counterparty exposures.
  5. Oversee onboarding of target clients and present business and credit cases to internal partners.
  6. Drive revenue growth while maintaining sound risk-return metrics.
  7. Serve as the first line of defense for continuous credit quality monitoring.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven corporate banking experience in South Africa and SSA, with a track record of developing client relationships and closing transactions.
  • Deep knowledge of corporate banking products, including loans, bonds, FX, and structured products.
  • Experience in risk management and originating credit or debt capital markets transactions.
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to manage cross-cultural environments and collaborate across departments.
  • Industry and market knowledge with existing client and investor relationships preferred.
  • Creative, innovative, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of articulating complex financial strategies.
  • Ability to manage long-term transactions alongside daily activities.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
