Job Overview

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for working on all development phases from research and development to design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning, including the management of small design groups. The goal is to design and assist in the fabrication and assembly of mechanical components of innovation and excellence.

Experience: Experienced engineers with 5+ years of experience will be considered as senior engineers. Previous experience in the military vehicle design environment would be greatly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  1. Design: Perform concept design, calculations, and layouts of new designs.
  2. Evaluate Finite Element simulations results.
  3. Prepare Solid Models of components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies, using the business file structure guidelines, number protocol, and design standards.
  4. Prepare concept layouts of design concepts, using own design initiative and incorporating inputs from the design team, with input from the team leader.
  5. Prepare detail layout and manufacturing drawings of components and assemblies.
  6. Ensure correct drawing standards are used on drawings done under supervision by draftsmen or in own capacity.
  7. Responsible for drawing sign-off according to drawing standards, ensuring data integrity during the release process.
  8. Responsible for the technical integrity of the allocated design, including the integration on a system level.
  9. Development: Follow the development process and procedures as described in the quality system, ensuring that relevant reviews and procedures are completed to reduce design risk.
  10. Assist during the building and testing of prototypes, ensuring that closed loop feedback can take place during the design process.
  11. Communicate with manufacturing and sub-contractors, to ensure the flow of information during prototyping and production.
  12. Mentor junior engineers on the development process.
  13. Test & Evaluation: Communicate and incorporate inputs from the test and analysis parties during the design process.
  14. Include the test and analysis parties to perform tests and analysis to complete the design cycle utilizing business processes.
  15. Plan, schedule, and execute tests as required on allocated sub-systems.
  16. Project Management: Ensure that projects are executed according to the time, mass, and budget targets set by the Design team leader.
  17. Represent the business at design reviews.
  18. Attend design reviews internally and externally with the client, representing ADGM with authority and making technical decisions.
  19. Manage systems throughout the acquisition phase, being accountable.
  20. Manage a design group within a program.
  21. Organize MRB to ensure decision making takes place swiftly.
  22. Take up the responsibilities of system integrator on large programs in support of the Chief designer.
  23. Support: Provide production support, capturing red-line drawings during the building and prototype phase.
  24. Assist ILS with repair, maintenance, and other information required.
  25. Support the procurement department during supplier evaluation and the procurement cycle.
  26. Responsible for the allocated design from concept phase up to sign-off, ensuring components are procured and quality assessed during the acquisition phase.
  27. Ensure suppliers conform to all requirements as set out in project specifications.
  28. Technology: Keep up to date with new trends in the automotive and military field by reading technical papers and documents.
  29. Research new technologies that can be utilized in the business.
  30. ISO Responsibilities: Ensure compliance according to the business policies and procedures.
  31. Adhere to the business SHEQ policy.

Qualifications:

Analytical Thinking, Problem Solving Skills, Ability to work under pressure, Experience with PMBoK (preferred), or similar, Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), Onshape, NX12 (Unigraphics) preferred or relevant CAD package, Microsoft Office, A team player who is willing to assist the team on various aspects of the project, if required.
