SGS South Africa, Matrolab Division, is seeking to fill a key role in its Civil Engineering Site and Commercial Laboratories. The role includes assisting the Supervisor/Laboratory Manager with all tasks, whether it’s on-site or in the commercial laboratory. The Materials Tester will ensure that the laboratory is clean at all times and will carry out all work-related instructions from the technicians/supervisors or authorized personnel.
Job Description
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager, the Materials Tester will:
- Be responsible for cleaning the company equipment on a regular basis and ensuring all test equipment is cleaned after completion of any job.
- Be responsible for cleaning up the work area where the job was carried out and ensuring it is free of all consumables used to perform the job (masking tape, tins).
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Orally report deviations, irregularities, and non-conformances.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
- Ensure that all procedures are followed at all times and report any possible deviations to the direct line manager as soon as possible.
- Complete timesheets accurately on a daily basis.
Qualifications
- Grade 12, and/or proven years of laboratory knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with the latest Civil Engineering Testing Methods (e.g., TMH 1 and SANS etc.).
- Language: Proficiency in English and Afrikaans (Read, write, speak).
Additional Information
- Sampling and preparation experience.
- Administration experience will be advantageous.
- Punctuality.
- Physically able and willing to safely pick up and move samples as and when required.
