Job description

Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Technician: Flotation Group position within the Mineral Processing division.

The candidate will be responsible for conducting highly complex and advanced technical laboratory analyses.

Profound expertise in the specialist area is essential, as the work is inherently integrated and demands it.

Additionally, the candidate will engage in intricate research activities, analyzing and evaluating research data to enhance an established research effort.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  1. Assume the responsibility of leader on selected MPD's bench scale tests and pilot plant campaigns.
  2. Assist with the construction, commissioning, and operation of pilot plants and laboratory test equipment of either Flotation or Comminution Group.
  3. Conduct laboratory experiments and participate in the execution of pilot plants.
  4. Assist chief investigators to meet the technical objectives of projects and contribute to technical problem solving.
  5. Train contract workers and operators in the safe and correct use of equipment and in the execution of laboratory and pilot plant procedures.
  6. Independently manage unit operations that form part of larger projects, including planning, staffing, operation, quality control, and reporting.
  7. Perform basic calculations related to laboratory experiments and pilot plant operations.
  8. Ensure proper calibration of equipment, pH electrodes, etc., and that data is correctly logged and monitored for accuracy.
  9. Ensure full compliance with SHEQ standards at all times.
  10. Use equipment responsibly to avoid damage.
Execution, People and Planning:

Perform highly complex laboratory data acquisition, manipulation, reduction, and analysis, ensuring quality and compliance with protocols, and provide comprehensive analysis of results.

Set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain sophisticated equipment and facilities.

Review experimental and test results for validity and reliability.

Participate in experiment design and develop specific research aspects.

Select, modify, and adapt equipment and instrumentation to project requirements.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum: BTech degree in Chemical Engineering / Extractive Metallurgy.
  • Ideal: MTech in Chemical Engineering / Extractive Metallurgy.
  • Minimum experience: On-the-job training gained after graduation.
  • Ideal experience: 3 years' experience in mineral processing operations such as flotation testing, sample preparation, comminution bench tests, milling circuits, crushers, flotation processes, or over 5 years broad-based experience in mineral processing environment.
