Job summary

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Administrative of financial aid to students in accordance with donor/funder and university regulations, policies, and operating guidelines;
  2. Inform and counsel prospective and enrolled students regarding financial aid options and requirements;
  3. Management of one or more Financial Aid Programmes and to administer the distribution of financial aid funds within established guidelines;
  4. Assess financial needs of students, and advise students and parents regarding financial aid options, processes, and requirements;
  5. Administration of UP own- and UP managed funds as well as matrix administration with various internal university departments;
  6. Offer excellent student support service, assist with walk-in student inquiries, email and telephone inquiries;
  7. Perform office administration tasks;
  8. Assist with ad hoc student finance and accounts-related tasks, including cashiering duties, processing payments and refunds, reconciling student accounts, administration of external bursaries, and other financial administrative responsibilities as required;
  9. Provide support and assistance to colleagues within the division.
Minimum Requirements

Relevant 3-year National Diploma with 3 years relevant general administration and cashier, student accounts, and bursary loans experience;

OR

Grade 12 with 5 years general administration and cashier, student accounts, and bursary loans experience.

Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge, And Behavioural Attributes)
  • Knowledge of financial principles;
  • Knowledge of student account processes and procedures;
  • Knowledge of financial aid principles and policies;
  • Knowledge of NSFAS;
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, and email packages);
  • Business writing skills;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Good time management;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Drive for accuracy;
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently.
Added Advantages And Preferences
  • BCom Degree;
  • 2 years’ experience in financial aid administration;
  • 2 years’ experience within a Higher Education environment;
  • 2 years’ experience in the use of PeopleSoft or equivalent ERP system.

The total remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
