Job description

IT Support Engineer

ScottNET, an End-to-End ICT Solutions Provider and a division of Halfway, with offices in JHB, Cape Town, and KZN, is seeking an IT Support Engineer to provide technical support at client sites.

The ideal candidate will have diverse hands-on experience and be comfortable in a client-facing role.

Location: Johannesburg

Responsibilities
  1. Assist customers via telephone, in person, and remotely with IT queries/problems.
  2. Provide 1st and 2nd line support, attend to alarms within the Managed Services Platform promptly.
  3. Log, assign, and resolve support cases on the service desk within specified severities.
  4. Monitor and troubleshoot daily client backups.
  5. Perform client site visits as required.
  6. Create, manage, and maintain site documentation.
  7. Provide clients with accurate monthly reports.
  8. Answer help desk calls.
  9. Set up and manage project plans.
Technical Support Experience
  1. Server Support: installation, configuration, maintenance, OS knowledge, backup recovery, Active Directory, HyperV, VM.
  2. Desktop Support: installation, configuration, maintenance, hardware building.
  3. Networking & Infrastructure: general networking knowledge, VLANs, infrastructure setup.
  4. Microsoft Technologies: Office, Exchange, SharePoint, security, mail migrations, domain setup.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric essential; tertiary qualification in Computer Science or IT preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in similar roles.
  • Strong understanding of hardware, networking, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to build client relationships.
