Purpose of Position:

Responsible for overseeing and guiding the training of employees and interns within the Histopathology laboratory. This role ensures that all team members achieve high levels of theoretical and practical competence. Additionally, this role fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours (Required), HPCSA registration as Medical Scientist (Anatomical Pathology) (Required)

Required Experience:
  1. 3 years post qualification experience as a Medical Scientist within Histopathology laboratory environment
  2. Clear and effective communication skills to provide instructions, constructive feedback, and guidance, including active listening and explaining complex concepts
  3. Effective problem solving skills to address and resolve issues
  4. In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations and HPCSA standards to ensure compliance, especially regarding internships
  5. Knowledge of research methodologies, including designing experiments, conducting studies, and writing research papers
  6. Knowledge of various teaching methods, techniques, and approaches
  7. Proficiency in using medical software for patient records, data management, and healthcare applications
  8. Strong leadership and mentoring skills to motivate interns and develop their skills and work ethic
  9. Time management skills to manage tasks efficiently and ensure learning objectives are met
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct assessments of staff performance to identify areas for improvement
  2. Design and develop outcomes-based training materials and competency assessment tools
  3. Maintain good client relations to promote the image of Ampath
  4. Oversee training and portfolio sign-off for intern medical scientists, ensuring competency
  5. Perform Histopathology techniques
  6. Prepare, maintain, and ensure compliance with accreditation standards for the intern training laboratory
