Job description

As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Qualified EEG Technician based in Benoni, South Africa. The Qualified EEG Technician is to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a comprehensive range of electroencephalography (EEG) and other neurodiagnostic procedures in our clinic and at various hospital sites. This role requires excellent technical skills, strong time management abilities, a professional demeanor, and the ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex EEG procedures on patients of all ages, including awake, sleep deprived, and portable EEGs.
  • Perform sleep studies and have a wide range of knowledge on Polysomnograms.
  • Apply electrodes accurately according to the International 10-20 system and other specialized montages.
  • Operate and troubleshoot EEG equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Recognize and document normal and abnormal EEG patterns, artefacts, and clinical events.
  • Perform activation procedures such as hyperventilation and photic stimulation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and test results.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of EEG equipment and the testing environment according to infection control protocols.
  • Travel to various hospitals within Johannesburg to perform Neurodiagnostic procedures as required.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and procedures within the field of neurodiagnostics.
  • Maintain continuous professional development and stay updated on best practices in EEG.
  • Present oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times, reflecting positively on the clinic.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualification as EEG Technician.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an EEG Technician.
  • Proven experience in performing a wide range of EEG procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of EEG principles, techniques, and interpretation.
  • Excellent technical skills in operating and maintaining EEG equipment.
  • Valid South African driver's license and own reliable transportation are mandatory.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Afrikaans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Professional appearance and demeanour.
  • Willingness to adhere to company rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with different EEG and Sleep Study software and analysis systems.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting.

Salary is market related and travel allowance for work-related travel

Location: Benoni

Working hours: 8am - 6pm ( depending on workload and patients assigned for the day) and weekends as allocated.
