Job description

A leading pharmaceutical company has a vacancy for a Specialist Medical Representative - Rare Diseases to educate key specialists on the scientific and clinical evidence of the products, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Territory : Pretoria

Main Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Implement sales strategies and tactics in line with company policies.
  2. Engage healthcare professionals (Oncologists, Neurologists, Rehabilitation Units) in dialogue to promote product knowledge, benefits, efficacy, safety, and treatment protocols using scientific, balanced messages through face-to-face and digital channels.
  3. Demonstrate strong, in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge of relevant disease states and product mechanisms.
  4. Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify business opportunities.
  5. Develop and execute a territory business plan, allocating resources effectively for maximum sales impact.
  6. Monitor and adjust the business plan to focus on high-potential customers.
  7. Participate in sales activities to increase product awareness.
  8. Maintain and update customer segmentation and call records.
  9. Expand the customer base in line with sales effectiveness guidelines.
  10. Adapt strategies based on stakeholder insights and cross-functional inputs.
  11. Address objections regarding treatment efficacy, costs, or patient outcomes with evidence-based responses.
  12. Report product quality complaints, adverse events, and medical inquiries to relevant departments.
  13. Complete all required training as per the training plan.

Qualifying Requirements :

  1. Related bachelor’s degree, preferably in a science-related field.
  2. Experience in calling on specialists, especially oncologists and neurologists.
  3. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  4. Deep clinical knowledge.
  5. High drive, determination, and self-motivation.
  6. Good integrity, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  7. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Time management skills.
  9. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  10. Excellent selling skills.
  11. Established relationships within the territory and key stakeholders.
  12. Embodies company values in all interactions.
