Job description

Management of the Legal & Commercial Department
  1. Oversee all aspects of the Legal & Commercial department.
  2. Provide legal and commercial support to the business, with a thorough understanding of the market.
  3. Identify, manage, and mitigate legal and contractual risks internally and externally.
  4. Handle high-exposure projects and commercial activities, including contract drafting, negotiations, claims, and contract management.
  5. Support the management and negotiation of claims and change requests for ongoing contracts.
  6. Draft and maintain contractual templates for the organization.
  7. Manage internal legal risks and compliance, ensuring adherence to policies, approvals, and business assurance standards.
  8. Lead efforts in good corporate governance and compliance.
  9. Engage regularly with business partners, stakeholders, external experts, and legal counsel.
  10. Handle Company Secretariat functions, including advising the Board of Directors, updating registers, lodging statutory documents, taking minutes, drafting resolutions, and ensuring statutory compliance per the Companies Act of 2008.
  11. Provide Corporate Governance training to the Board and management team as needed.
  12. Serve as the POPIA information officer for the company.
Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified as a South African lawyer (University law degree).
  • Admitted to practice law.
  • 5-7 years experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience with ICT-related contracts.
