Position: Reservations Office Manager

The CSIR has a vacancy for a Reservations Office Manager in the CSIR Conferencing and Accommodation (C&A) portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the CSIR ICC Reservations Office to achieve annual sales targets and ensure customer satisfaction for sustainable repeat business, through the implementation of standards and monitoring the use of product mix. The Reservations Office is the primary communication channel between customer requirements and CSIR ICC operating departments, ensuring internal and external client satisfaction and optimal use of facilities.

This position is based in Pretoria.

Reporting To

Business Development Manager

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage and motivate the performance of the CSIR ICC Event Coordinators.
  2. Establish, implement, and maintain operating standards, processes, and procedures for the Reservations Office.
  3. Ensure all contracts are signed and deposits received prior to events, and check final invoices to minimize risks.
  4. Meet sales targets by monitoring performance and implementing corrective actions.
  5. Maximize venue occupancy and revenue, advising on logistics and utilisation of facilities.
  6. Foster communication between Event Coordinators and operational departments.
  7. Develop and promote value-added client products/services, such as accommodation, transport, and tours.
  8. Monitor commission payments and control the Reservations Office budget and assets.
  9. Contribute to strategic planning with reports, ideas, and budget management.
  10. Maintain a healthy work environment supporting good employee relations and teamwork.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • National Diploma in Event Management with at least five years of experience in conferencing, international experience preferred.
  • Management experience and certification (e.g., CMP) advantageous.
  • Strong system, process, and customer focus skills.
  • Sales insight, delegating, accuracy, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
