This role will form part of the data center design team and report to the Lead Design Engineer while supporting the data center operational team where required. As a Data Center Electrical Engineer, this role is involved in the development of electrical infrastructure—from concept designs and design approvals to construction projects and major modifications or upgrades of existing infrastructure. Site installation and commissioning must be verified by the electrical engineer before the project is handed over to the operational team.
Objectives
Main Functions of the Job
- Collaborate with the data center team to understand, develop, and approve electrical designs for new data center construction and system enhancement projects.
- Designs will include MV and LV reticulation, generator systems, UPS systems, rectifier systems, and distribution to client cabinets.
- Review and approve basis of design documents, capacity calculations, and single line diagrams.
- Review and approve all commissioning and system testing strategies for each project.
- Enhance electrical systems continuously to ensure high efficiency.
- Design, implement, and test infrastructure to deliver a cost-effective, concurrently maintainable solution supporting 99.999% electrical uptime.
- Conduct working methods to ensure all SLAs and MSAs are achieved.
- Ensure all parts of the designs can be monitored and integrated with the BMS system for overall system monitoring and management.
- Review, approve, and provide all handover documentation to the Data Center operations team.
- Review and approve electrical maintenance procedures before handover to the operations team.
- Create safe work procedures for all electrical maintenance activities.
- Ensure planned and corrective maintenance are achievable to meet customer MSAs and SLAs.
- Provide training to the operational team on design and operational principles of electrical systems.
- Monitor health and safety, taking corrective actions to meet statutory compliance, SLAs, and good business practices.
- Implement company and departmental policies, processes, and work instructions as per quality standards and timelines.
- Participate in L1-L6 commissioning to ensure designs align with initial specifications.
Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Support HR in achieving organizational development goals within agreed timelines.
- Meet inter-departmental OLAs.
- Ensure health and safety compliance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain ISO 14001 and 50001 certifications, driving action plans and reporting.
- Ensure all maintenance and systems comply with local legislation and standards.
- Provide training to operational teams on electrical system design and operation principles.
Critical System Management
- Maintain PUE levels through proper working methods.
- Finalize tasks and report accurately within agreed formats and timelines.
- Provide national technical support to operational data centers.
