Job summary

Roche is seeking an Engineering Technician in Cape Town to support Operations and Reagent Development. The Position

The primary function of the Engineering Technician is to provide front-line assistance for equipment and facilities in support of the Operations and Reagent and Assay Development Functional Units at Roche DIA Cape Town. This individual is responsible for completing all planned and unplanned maintenance work orders for both internal execution and third-party service providers.

The Opportunity
  1. Conducts, schedules, coordinates, and supervises Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Calibration with external Service Providers via indirect procurement, as prompted by the computerized maintenance management system within designated time frames.
  2. Troubleshoots equipment effectively within a controlled production environment, maintaining close communication with key stakeholders.
  3. Completes relevant work orders for Calibration, planned, and unplanned Maintenance activities.
  4. Ensures databases/software systems are updated with work progress to reflect current status.
  5. Notifies Contact Persons/Department Managers and QA of any failed PPM or Calibration and ensures systems are labeled appropriately.
  6. Keeps a running inventory of all parts and components used during PPM and maintains a stock of replacements.
  7. Contributes to Continuous Improvement by investigating the feasibility of consolidating outsourced PPM and Calibrations into in-house activities.
  8. Assists with routine activities related to the environmental monitoring program, such as temperature monitoring and water sampling.
Who you are
  1. Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Instrumentation, Electrical), or a recognized trade qualification in Instrumentation/Electrical, combined with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing or Engineering, preferably in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic equipment industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Able to work under pressure, with flexible hours and tight deadlines.
  2. Strong communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to management and non-technical audiences, and interfacing regularly with third-party service providers.
  3. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize tasks effectively in a multifaceted environment.
  4. Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate support within a large, international organization.
  5. SAP knowledge.
