Safety Health and Environmental Manager

We're excited to invite potential candidates for the Safety Health and Environmental Manager position with our esteemed client's team in Durban, specialising in manufacturing.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. National Senior Certificate.
  2. A minimum of 8 years' experience in SHE in a manufacturing environment.
  3. At least 5 years' experience at a senior management level.
  4. Relevant Bachelor's degree in Safety Management or Environmental Management.
  5. Valid Driver's License (Code 08).
  6. Advantageous: Additional certifications in HIRA, NOSA, SAMTRAC, ISO, and/or OHSAS.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Occupational Safety Management

  1. Develop and maintain a safety management system.
  2. Enforce safety policies and procedures.
  3. Ensure contractor compliance with safety regulations.
  4. Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe work practices.
  5. Manage training records.
  6. Chair the Safety Committee.

Environmental Management

  1. Formulate and implement an environmental management system.
  2. Ensure compliance with regulations.
  3. Prepare permit applications and reports.
  4. Manage environmental impact and mitigation efforts.
  5. Provide guidance on effective practices.

Disaster Planning

  1. Lead the Emergency Response Team.
  2. Promote emergency preparedness.
  3. Develop and implement disaster plans.
  4. Test and monitor disaster plans.

Excellence in Compliance

  1. Implement and enhance SHE policies.
  2. Conduct hazard identification and maintain records.
  3. Propose improvement recommendations.
  4. Conduct internal audits.
  5. Ensure compliance with legislation.

Audit and Risk Management

  1. Identify and evaluate potential losses.
  2. Develop plans to prevent or mitigate losses.
  3. Investigate accidents and incidents.
  4. Manage corrective actions.

Project Management

  1. Manage projects as required.

Employee Development

  1. Engage with employees.
  2. Provide training and development.
  3. Address non-compliant behavior.
